Vue vs React in 2022: Which Framework to Choose and When

ReactJS, created by Facebook, was first released in 2013. Facebook used React extensively in its products (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). It can be used to create user interfaces or just about any other technical piece of code, thanks to its modular approach. By the end of 2020, the current release is 17. X (with incremental updates since then).

Vue is a lightweight and dependency-free open source javascript framework. It was released in 2014 by Evan You and has 60,967 stars on GitHub. Version 3 was released in September 2020 and it continues to be installed 17,182 times a month with a sharp decline of 0.08% over the last 3 months. Vue’s license is MIT and some of its famous users include Microsoft, Alibaba, or iQIYI.

But which tool should you use? Let’s see how each stacks up together.

Vue v/s React:

  • Background-

React was created for a specific reason on Facebook. These days, however, React operates under the MIT license, making it an open-source project. Although React has enjoyed initial backing from some of the biggest names in the tech world, including Facebook and even Instagram – some developers doubted whether or not it would continue to be developed.

In recent years though, there’s been a noticeable shift towards ongoing development and long-term support – especially from Facebook itself. As such, React is still considered one of the top JavaScript frameworks around today.

Evan You, by developing this new framework, has shown that it is possible for a single person to do more than the work of a whole team. He had previously worked for Google where he was a core contributor to Google’s AngularJS team for several years before leaving in 2014. During his time there, he witnessed the real-world challenges of large-scale applications and how these issues were addressed by attempts to build large-scale frameworks like Angular and Ember.

As a result of working with his community and using crowdfunding, his framework is now truly open-source.

  • Performance-

When developing a project, there are many factors to take into account. One major factor that can be taken into consideration is performance. Vue.js and React both go head-to-head in terms of performance, but developers should consider other factors such as whether or not they plan on using any Javascript libraries or if they prefer the “Web Components” philosophy.

Loading times are essential for usability. Designers should keep loading times as short as possible. When designing an app or website, it is important to examine how long each product takes to load, what might make it slower, and how likely it is to impact the usability of the website.

  • The Learning Curve-

React was built to work directly on any operating system and can be widely integrated into other technologies like AngularJS. This makes it pretty easy for you to grasp the concept of development and start coding right away. The documentation provided by React is also detailed which makes it easier for developers to learn new things easily.

Whereas the learning curve of Vue is quite beginner-friendly and easy-to-use. To begin with Vue, you just need a basic understanding of HTML and ES5 JavaScript.

  • Popularity-

React vs Vue is a never-ending debate among web developers. In terms of popularity, React leads the league with more than 8 million downloads via NPM. Vue.js is a popular and rapidly growing JavaScript Framework. NPM, Github, and StackOverflow all rank it as the second most popular Framework with 1.9 million downloads and 3rd on StackOverflow’s survey 2018.

  • Web and Mobile Development-

React Native is a cross-platform development environment that allows a mobile app to be developed with Javascript. It’s a great tool for developers who have prior experience in ReactJS because it heavily relies on the React framework.

Vue is becoming increasingly popular due to the growing success of the Vue ecosystem. Some examples of expanding ecosystems include partnering with Weex, a cross-platform UI framework for creating modern apps similar to React Native. With NativeScript-Vue, developers can create native mobile apps in Vue that work across different operating systems like iOS and Android.

  • Documentation-

React’s documentation is helpful and well-written, but it can take a long time to read. Vue, on the other hand, is far more structured so if you are looking for something that is easier to read, you might consider using Vue instead.

Vue’s extensive documentation is user-friendly. You’ll find all the information you need without being inundated with excessive redundant content. This makes it much easier to learn about your product in a way that doesn’t waste your time.

  • Community Support-

For any programming language or framework, community support is an essential component for its popularity. Many new developers are motivated by positive feedback from the community, which helps them stay interested in the technology they chose to learn.

It’s important for them to know that the larger the community support of a specific framework or coding language, generally speaking, the more reliable it will be.

The framework Vue may not be the most popular choice among developers, but it does have some notable benefits. For one, Vue is an open-source solution that’s free to use and customize. Unfortunately with that kind of backing, you may expect it to be more popular than it currently is (it’s not popular yet) but it has gained immense popularity among the development community on merit alone.

  • Security-

Both Vue and React have their respective security advantages; however, top Vue JS development companies assure more protection against attacks. For example, Vue can sanitize HTML code, which decreases the risk of XSS vulnerability. With the help of an external service like Cloudinary, you’re protecting your application both before and after rendering HTML.

You can also explicitly render secure HTML through data attributes that direct a user to a non-HTML page if they attempt to embed or otherwise execute malicious content in your application.

Security in React applications relies on developers making use of security best practices to protect against such things as cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities, server-side rendering attacks, and SQL injections. This may even include using technologies like the serialize-javascript module, exploiting script injection flaws, and using secure application programming interfaces.

Remember that although React is indeed very easy to integrate with, it takes a lot of experience and expertise to ensure that the applications are kept secure.

Conclusion-

React is more of a centralized single-vendor ecosystem built for a small, versatile team of developers to develop a product that doesn’t require a lot of resources. It’s an excellent choice if you’re not super concerned about how scalable the end result will end up being, even though it does have a good reputation for doing so.

The extensive documentation that comes with Vue is another draw for many developers. They find it easier to use than React’s because of its great tutorials and quick start guides. Another benefit of using Vue is that it requires less code than React to build an app, which means you can publish your game much quicker than if you were using Objective-C or Swift.

Choose React if you want:

  • Flexibility in ecosystem, tools, and libraries.
  • To use TypeScript, Flow, ReasonML, BuckleScript.
  • To debug and develop high utility.
  • Build any complex app.
  • Create any website or high-performance video streaming.

Choose Vue if you want:

  • To build an innovative application.
  • Need development immediately.
  • To have access to tools and system support.
  • To extend the functionality of any existing application.

React or Vue, settle down according to your choices.
